Only in his sixth start at the European Championships in Kocaeli, Turkey, did Czech paraswimmer David Kratochvíl find a winner. In the 100-meter breaststroke, the eighteen-year-old blind representative was defeated by Spaniard Albert Gelis, who won gold in a world record. Kratochvíl thus bids farewell to the championship by winning silver. Agáta Koupilová won another silver in the toughest 200-meter freestyle.
