US Edition‘KPop Demon Hunters’ is officially eligible for the Oscars
Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, the streamer’s most-watched film with over 541 million hours viewed, qualified after a theatrical run in three major U.S. cities.
- On Friday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences named KPop Demon Hunters among 35 films eligible for the animated feature category at the 98th Academy Awards.
- After a qualifying theatrical run in June, KPop Demon Hunters satisfied the Academy's eligibility rules with screenings in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
- Netflix says KPop Demon Hunters is its most-watched film with more than 541 million hours viewed worldwide, eight Billboard Hot 100 songs, an August theatrical run, and a Halloween weekend release.
- Fans must wait for nomination morning on Jan. 22 to learn if KPop Demon Hunters made the animated feature cut, and it's largely expected in original song with Golden submitted.
- There are also 201 documentaries and 86 international features eligible, with shortlists to be revealed on Dec. 16, and Ne Zha 2 was not among the 35 titles listed.
