Guard of Honour Marks King’s Arrival at Balmoral for Summer Break
The King inspected the regiment and met well-wishers as Balaklava Company marked its royal guard duty, which runs from July to October.
On Tuesday, King Charles marked his official arrival at Balmoral Castle, inspecting the Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, during a traditional welcome ceremony.
Balmoral Castle has served as the British royal family's summer residence since 1852, when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert purchased the 50,000-acre Aberdeenshire estate, with the current structure completed in 1856.
During the inspection, the King greeted Corporal Cruachan, the regiment's Shetland pony mascot, and later spoke with well-wishers who gathered outside the castle gates following the ceremony.
Upcoming visits include the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children, expected in the coming weeks, alongside Prime Minister Andy Burnham and his wife.
King Charles reestablished the Balmoral Highlanders, a ceremonial unit disbanded in 1936, who now stand guard at the estate wearing uniforms featuring the Balmoral Glen Gelder tartan.
