The Kingdom intends to pay just under EUR 3 billion for a weapon-technical upgrade of the type 45 destroyer (Daring class) – not only to give the fleet more firepower in the short term, but also to noticeably get closer to the 2.5% target in defence spending. Not only one, but four of the ships should be equipped with the laser weapon system DragonFire LDEW (Laser Directed Energy Weapon) by 2027, which so far only exists as a demonstrator.
