Kevin Keegan confirms stage four cancer battle and 'goodbye' wish
Treatment is underway and Keegan is responding well as the former Newcastle manager says he wants to say goodbye to supporters.
Kevin Keegan made his first public appearance this weekend at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle, addressing fans about his life and career while appearing in good spirits.
In January, Keegan's family confirmed he was undergoing cancer treatment following abdominal symptoms; months later, social media users spread a false hoax claiming the former England manager had only days to live.
During the event, Keegan disclosed he has stage four cancer, the most serious form of the illness, while quipping: "Fantastic! I thought he might say 80, maybe 90!" about his doctor's prognosis.
The former Newcastle United manager expressed a desire to return to St James' Park to wave to supporters, noting he missed that opportunity when departing his role in 2008.
Renowned as a decorated player who won the 1977 European Cup and 63 England caps, Keegan remains a celebrated figure, currently focused on ongoing treatment while reconnecting with fans.
