Kenya confirms third Ebola case, a relative of the first patient who died
The health ministry said all three cases are linked to one family and 3 contacts remain untraced.
On Friday, the Kenya Ministry confirmed a third Ebola case: a 65-year-old woman who tested positive while in quarantine. She is a relative of the first patient who died on Oct 5 after arriving from Congo.
Ministry officials state there is no evidence of community spread, as all cases remain linked to the first patient. The second patient, a 39-year-old man from the same family, remains in stable condition.
Kenya intensified border screening nationwide, establishing a designated gate at the Nairobi airport for flights from 10 Ebola-affected countries. The Associated Press observed enhanced health checks, including temperature screenings, at the Busia border crossing with Uganda.
Barbara Muttimos of Doctors Without Borders told The Associated Press that people must be "honest about their exposures" and disclose their symptoms. She said early detection increases survival chances.
Efforts to trace contacts in Congo and Uganda face ongoing challenges as the region battles a severe outbreak. Congo has experienced at least 4,000 deaths since May due to Ebola.
