Kelowna, Kamloops Partner to Improve Fire Dispatch with New 911 Technology
Each city received $5.1 million to add backup safeguards and improve emergency communications while keeping dispatch operations separate.

- The Canadian Radio and Television Commission mandated the shift to Next-Generation 911 technology as dispatch centres transition away from legacy systems.
- Both the City of Kelowna and the City of Kamloops each received $5.1 million in grant funding administered by the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and funded by the Province.
- "Reliable fire dispatch is critical to keeping people safe," said Kelowna Assistant Fire Chief Jason Bedell, emphasizing how the partnership strengthens emergency response systems.
- Both dispatch centres will continue to operate as separate organizations responsible for their own fire departments, with staffing, response procedures, and service levels remaining unchanged.
