Kansas State, Jerome Tang Reportedly Finalizing $12 Million Settlement
ESPN reported the deal would pay Tang $12 million after Kansas State fired him for cause and disputed the remaining $18.7 million contract balance.
Kansas State is finalizing a $12 million settlement with former men's basketball coach Jerome Tang, ESPN reported Thursday, resolving a dispute over his original $18.7 million buyout.
Athletic director Gene Taylor terminated Tang "for cause" midseason following a blowout loss to Cincinnati, citing postgame comments where Tang called player efforts "embarrassing."
Tang challenged the termination by hiring attorneys Tom Mars and Bennett Speyer, though he never formally filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the university.
Following his departure from Manhattan, Tang returned to Baylor, where he now serves as associate head coach for the Bears, having helped them win the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats hired former Belmont coach Casey Alexander to lead the program; K-State will enter the 2026-27 season with only one returning player, tipping off against South Dakota State on Nov. 3.
