Duke Basketball Lands 2027 Commitment From Luke Paul
The 6-foot-6 point guard chose Duke over several major programs and is viewed as a potential lottery pick in the 2028 NBA Draft.
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, Australian point guard Luke Paul committed to Duke University for the 2027-28 season; he will complete the 2026-27 campaign with the NBL's Cairns Taipans before joining the Blue Devils.
Paul established himself as a premier prospect after leading Australia to a bronze medal at the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup, where he earned All-Star Five honors as a 6-foot-6 floor general.
Duke head coach Jon Scheyer secured the commitment after one call with Paul, who shot 55.6% from three-point range and 77.1% from the free-throw line during the tournament.
Paul cited playing alongside future teammate Joaquim Boumtje Boumtje as a key factor in his decision, aiming to win a national championship at Duke before pursuing an NBA lottery pick.
His commitment marks a shift for the NBL Next Stars program, now integrating college preparation alongside its traditional NBA pathway; Liam Santamaria, NBL General Manager of Next Stars Recruitment, praised Paul's talent and character.
