Justice Department Has Issued Subpoenas for Nevada Voter Data, State’s Elections Chief Says
Nevada officials received seven FBI subpoenas and a DHS demand for voter rolls as federal investigators pursue claims of voter fraud.
- On Friday, the office of Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar confirmed receiving seven voter-related DOJ subpoenas from the FBI over the last three months. Aguilar, a Democrat, criticized the administration for inundating election offices with investigations ahead of the midterms.
- The Department of Homeland Security this week began a surge to investigate voter fraud in nine states, including Nevada, after DHS claimed an audit identified 16,000 registered noncitizens in the state among more than 250,000 nationwide.
- Internal records reviewed by CNN show the department 'confirmed' just 185 of those noncitizen cases, while 6,200 were labeled 'higher confidence matches' requiring further vetting. U.S. Attorney Sigal Chatta oversaw the request in Nevada.
- Separately, the administration asked the Supreme Court on Thursday to grant the Postal Service power to withhold mail ballots, setting up a showdown at the high court less than two months before the midterms.
- With less than 60 days before the midterms, the government is demanding private voter information across the country, coinciding with President Donald Trump's ongoing, unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 election against Joe Biden was rigged.
