No. 5 Montana State Gets Back on Track, Routs Eastern Washington

Joshua Wood accounted for four touchdowns as Idaho scored on six of seven possessions and survived a late fourth-down stop.

  • On Saturday, the Idaho Vandals defeated the Montana Grizzlies 42-35 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium in a Big Sky Conference matchup. Quarterback Joshua Wood led Idaho to victory, securing the Little Brown Stein traveling trophy.
  • This victory marks Idaho's second top-10 win in three weeks after the Vandals upset then-No. 1 Montana State earlier this month in Moscow. Idaho completed a season sweep of Montana schools for the first time since 1989.
  • Joshua Wood passed for 335 yards and three touchdowns with 85 rushing yards, while Montana quarterback Keali'i Ah Yat countered with 338 passing yards and five touchdowns, three to wide receiver Brooks Davis.
  • Montana's final comeback attempt failed when Ah Yat threw an incompletion on fourth down from the Idaho 19 with 33 seconds remaining. Idaho held the ball approximately 11 1/2 minutes longer than the Grizzlies.
  • Second-Year Idaho coach Thomas Ford Jr. called the result an "instant classic" on the team's postgame radio show. The Vandals host Southern Utah next Saturday, while Montana travels to Eastern Washington on October 31.
