Jon Rahm once fought Scottie Scheffler for No. 1 in the world. A move to LIV Golf changed that
Multiple reports reveal Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund plans to stop financing LIV Golf after the 2026 season, following more than £4 billion in spending since 2022.
Jon Rahm joined the circuit in late 2023 for a deal valued beyond $300 million, but remains under long-term contract despite the financial turmoil, unlike Brooks Koepka who negotiated a PGA Tour return.
Competing at this week's PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, Rahm dismissed business concerns, stating, "It's the people in charge of LIV, whose job I do not envy for a second, it's their job to fix it."
Rory McIlroy admitted last week he was wrong to initially oppose a league merger, noting, "There's a lot of uncertainty in the air right now" as geopolitical funding models complicate LIV's survival.
To maintain eligibility for next year's Ryder Cup, Rahm secured a World Tour membership deal last week, expressing faith that LIV leadership will develop a viable plan navigating the financial transition.
