Jon Morris, former AFL and NFL center with Patriots, dies at 84
The former center spent 11 seasons with the Patriots, earned six AFL All-Star selections and was inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
On Thursday, the New England Patriots announced that Hall of Famer Jon Morris died at 84; the franchise did not disclose a cause of death for the former center.
A 1964 draft pick, Morris chose Boston over the Green Bay Packers, launching a 15-year career that included 130 games with the Patriots and established him as a foundational player.
Morris earned six consecutive AFL All-Star selections from 1964 to 1969 and became the first Patriots player chosen for the Pro Bowl in 1970, later joining the franchise's All-1960s, 35th, and 50th Anniversary Teams.
Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft said Morris represented the "toughness, dedication and pride" of the team's early years; Morris called his 2011 Hall of Fame induction "the crowning achivement of my football life."
Following his playing career, Morris served as a Patriots radio broadcaster from 1979 to 1987; his name appeared on the 2026 Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot, though he did not advance further in the voting process.
