Winnipeg Jets trade Connor Hellebuyck to Devils: TSN
The deal could add another star to New Jersey’s roster, with insiders saying the Devils may also pursue Dylan Larkin and Quinn Hughes.
On Friday, the Winnipeg Jets began working on a trade to send goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils as his suspension for failing to report to training camp expired today.
Winnipeg suspended Hellebuyck after he requested a trade and failed to report to training camp, costing the three-time Vezina Trophy winner $925,000 in forfeited salary over the past three weeks.
With a career record of 345-208-55, Hellebuyck's $8.5 million average salary and no-movement clause significantly complicated the organization's ability to finalize a deal with potential suitors.
Negotiations aim to pair Hellebuyck with Team USA teammate Jack Hughes in New Jersey, with the Jets currently finalizing the specific assets involved in the trade.
Hellebuyck previously stated that moving on is "the best path forward for me and my family," as the organization aims to focus on rebuilding the roster long-term.
