JetBlue Increases Checked Baggage Fees for a Second Time in 2026
The airline says the higher fees will help offset rising fuel and operating costs as it seeks to keep base fares competitive.
Effective Tuesday, November 3, 2026, JetBlue Airways increased checked bag fees for the third time in less than a year, affecting flights within the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada.
Jet fuel prices have roughly doubled since the Iran war began in February, prompting JetBlue to state that "We're adjusting checked bag fees to help offset rising fuel and operating costs."
Travelers booking economy now pay at least $50 for a first bag during off-peak periods, rising to $60 within 24 hours of departure; peak fees increase to $55 in advance and $70 for late bookings.
JetBlue has repeatedly led the industry with these increases, and other major airlines typically follow within weeks; frequent flyer status holders and those with co-branded credit cards remain exempt from these charges.
The airline has not reported an operating profit since before the pandemic and aims to return to profitability in 2027, though rising fuel costs continue to challenge the carrier's financial stability.
