Japanese video game company Nintendo reports rising profit, falling sales
Strong software and film revenue offset weaker console sales as Nintendo kept its annual profit forecast and said 6.49 million Switch 2 units were sold.
On Thursday, Nintendo reported mixed financial results, with first-half profit rising to 220.9 billion yen while second-quarter net profit fell 29 percent to 73.5 billion yen .
Switch 2 sales dropped 41 percent to 2.67 million units in the quarter as the company increased prices to offset soaring memory chip costs used in everyday electronics.
Overall sales for the six-month period slipped 12 percent to 966 billion yen, yet Nintendo leveraged steady demand for software titles like 'Star Fox' and 'Splatoon Raiders'.
Following the report, stocks rose 6.3 percent in Tokyo on Thursday as the company maintained its annual net profit forecast of 310 billion yen through March 2027.
Leveraging its existing hardware and software, Nintendo aims to expand engagement, with upcoming releases including 'Grand Theft Auto VI' and 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' remake.
Nintendo recorded an increase in the first semester's profit, thanks to more significant sales of software and the success of a film by "Super Mario". Exclusive material for subscribers. To have full access, access the link of the material and register.
