James Patterson’s new initiative gives emerging authors up to $50,000 to finish their books
James Patterson's campaign awarded $50,000 grants to 12 emerging authors from hundreds of submissions to support diverse book projects, including memoirs and graphic novels.
On Wednesday, James Patterson, bestselling novelist and true crime writer, announced the first 12 recipients of grants from his 'Go Finish Your Book' campaign, chosen from hundreds of submissions working on memoirs to graphic novels.
After years of philanthropic giving, Patterson launched this initiative following millions donated to literacy programs and support for bookstore employees and librarians.
Winners will receive up to $50,000 each, and Jungin Angie Lee, recipient, hopes to finish a short story collection exploring friendship, family, and disability.
Patterson said the grants are meant to give writers "a little time, a little space, and a push to say: your voice matters ˜ now go finish your book" and help complete stalled projects.
Organized with PEN America, the Authors Guild and the Iowa Writers' Workshop, Patterson's program links funds to major literary institutions and hundreds of applicants, potentially extending support beyond the inaugural cohort.
