Jack Antonoff Says Ed Sheeran Should Have ‘Cancelled the Whole F***ing Tour’ Amid Macklemore Drama
Antonoff said Sheeran missed a chance to stand up to promoters and stadium owners after Macklemore was dropped over his “Free Palestine” remarks.
- In an interview published Sunday, Grammy-winning producer Jack Antonoff criticized Ed Sheeran for removing Macklemore from his Loop Tour over the rapper's pro-Palestine remarks. Antonoff argued Sheeran yielded to billionaire venue owners instead of defending free speech.
- Macklemore was removed from the Loop Tour in September after onstage 'Free Palestine' remarks sparked backlash. Patriots owner Robert Kraft and other venue owners allegedly threatened to cancel Sheeran's performances if the rapper remained on the bill.
- Antonoff urged Sheeran to 'stand the fuck up,' arguing the singer missed a 'massive, beautiful opportunity' to cancel the tour and perform free shows outside venues. He contended artists should not allow billionaires to dictate political expression.
- Following his removal, Macklemore launched a three-date 'Macklemore & Friends: Free Palestine' tour, which sold out immediately. The rapper announced proceeds support humanitarian efforts for Palestinians.
- Antonoff remains vocal about supporting Palestinians, describing 'Free Palestine' as a 'deeply human' statement rather than something controversial. He noted feeling more emboldened to speak out despite facing online abuse.
