‘It’s setting off alarm bells’: Environmental Defence says Wasaga Beach needs to legally commit to protecting plovers, dunes

Environmental Defence, through EcoJustice, has asked the federal Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Nature, Julie Dabrusin, to step in with an emergency order under the federal Species at Risk Act to protect piping plover nesting habitat at Beach Area One. Wasaga Beach mayor Brian Smith says town will maintain status quo when it comes to beach raking, and might even do more to protect habitat.
