The Irish healthcare service HSE is going to grant so-called ‘pregnant men’ the right to 26 weeks of paid maternity leave. This concerns trans men who were registered as women at birth but are recognized as men under the law. They can receive the leave when they are pregnant or have given birth to a child. The scheme is based on legislation that was amended in 2023.
