Interfor increases Q4 lumber production curtailments in Canada and U.S.
Interfor plans 26% lumber output cut in Q4 2025 due to weak prices and economic uncertainty, reducing production by about 250 million board feet across North America.
- On Oct. 17, 2025, Interfor Corporation announced it will cut fourth-quarter lumber output by about 250 million board feet, or 26% versus the second quarter, across British Columbia, Ontario and the United States.
- Citing market weakness, Interfor said persistently weak lumber markets and economic uncertainty forced more cuts, with CEO Ian Fillinger noting prices weakened from already unsustainably low levels.
- The cuts exceed last month's plan to trim output by about 145 million board feet, and Interfor produced 936 million board feet in Q2 and about 910 million board feet in Q3 this year.
- Curtailment volumes will be split about evenly between Canadian and U.S. operations, and Interfor said it recognizes the impact on employees, contractors, suppliers and communities while monitoring market conditions.
- The release cautions that forward-looking information may not materialize and notes Interfor's 4.7 billion board feet annual production capacity, with no obligation to update statements.
