Injury gives Jaguars starting nose tackle chance to fill in at long snapper
DaVon Hamilton, practicing long snapping for six seasons, filled in after Ross Matiscik's injury and successfully snapped on multiple plays during the Jaguars' win.
On Sunday, DaVon Hamilton, the Jacksonville Jaguars' starting nose tackle, filled in as long snapper and executed an extra point, a 45-yard field goal and three punts before Ross Matiscik returned in the third quarter.
Because Matiscik was injured early, the Jaguars had to rely on DaVon Hamilton, who stepped in as long snapper and executed multiple special teams plays on Nov. 30.
DaVon Hamilton, listed at 6-foot-4 and 335 pounds, said he was a little confused when told to get ready to long snap and called the experience 'That was very exciting'.
Ross Matiscik praised Hamilton's fill-in work and repeatedly thanked him, while Logan Cooke noted taped wrists made snapping harder but secured high and low snaps.
Hamilton was drafted for his defensive prowess and has practiced long snapping across six seasons, with veteran long snappers highlighting snapping as a specialized skill.
