UNESCO approved the Indonesian government's proposal through the Ministry of Culture to include Reog Ponorogo as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb). This decision was taken through the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in Paraguay on 3 December 2024.

Reog Ponorogo has been officially included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, in the category “In Need of Urgent Safeguarding”.
