In a significant achievement for the conservation, multiplication and genetic improvement of indigenous cattle breeds, a healthy Badri female calf has been successfully born through Ovum Pick-Up and In Vitro Fertilisation (OPU-IVF) technology at the Academic Dairy Farm, following the transfer of a Badri embryo into a Sahiwal recipient cow.

The scientists of the ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (ICAR-NDRI) and GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, have jointly produced Uttarakhand’s state cattle breed Badri calf using ovum pick-up and in-vitro fertilisation (OPU-IVF) technology. This calf was produced through surrogacy in Uttarakhand. An embryo of Badri cattle was developed in a lab and later transferred to a Sahiwal cow for surrogacy.
