The D-EVOLUTION initiative, promoted by WWF Portugal and partners, aims to monitor the occupation of shelters, remove submerged waste and contribute to the ecological recovery of the habitat of these species in the Tagus estuary.

Nine supermarket carts placed in the waters of the Tagus near the Bay of Trafaria, in the municipality of Almada, are now artificial shelters for an important population nucleus of seahorses.
