Ever since I was a child, the annual Remembrance Day has made a deep impression on me. A sober memorial that commemorates the fallen soldiers and victims of the Second World War throughout the Netherlands. Literally silent, because on Dam Square in Amsterdam, you can hear a pin drop during the traditional minute of silence. This is probably the only time of the year that there is such reverent silence in the heart of Amsterdam.
