A federal judge has ruled that a private company — Florida-based GEO Group — operating a Tacoma immigrant detention center must allow state inspectors inside after years of refusing. “The State raises compelling concerns for the health and safety of the detainees held at GEO’s Tacoma facility,” the judge wrote. “Although they are detained, their welfare remains within the State’s purview.”
