TSA is giving airline passenger data to ICE for deportation push: NYT
The TSA shares passenger data multiple times weekly with ICE to identify and detain immigrants with final removal orders as part of an intensified deportation effort.
- Under a previously undisclosed program, the Transportation Security Administration supplies passenger lists several times a week to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aiding the Trump administration's deportation efforts at U.S. airports.
- Amid a drive to increase deportations, DHS officials, including Stephen Miller, floated goals and used ICE databases to meet targets, former officials said.
- ICE agents receive flight numbers, departure times and photos from the Pacific Enforcement Response Center, enabling local ICE and CBP officers to intercept flagged passengers hours before takeoff.
- The program produced immediate arrests, including the Nov. 20 detention at Boston Logan Airport of Any Lucía López Belloza, deported two days later, and a late-October Salt Lake City arrest.
- Amid concerns about airport operations, critics said the program frightens immigrants and a former ICE official said 75 percent of flagged cases led to arrests, warning of strained security.
