More Bald Range Evacuation Orders Lifted as Faulder Access Restrictions Ease
Crews have finished mop-up near homes and continue patrols for hot spots as rain and cooler weather help slow fire behavior, BCWS said.
- The Bald Range Wildfire remains held at 25,163 hectares as the BC Wildfire Service reports the immediate threat to structures in Summerland has passed, with mop-up operations completed 100 feet around homes and valuable areas.
- Although the fire received up to 11mm of rain on Aug. 29, BCWS warns that lingering drought conditions keep fuels dry, which will continue to "influence fire behaviour until we receive additional rain."
- Operations continue with 100 Mexican wildland firefighters and crews from Alberta and Quebec conducting aerial thermal scans and ground patrols to extinguish remaining heat 50 to 100 feet inside the fire perimeter.
- BCWS maintains an area restriction until Sept. 12, while Residents returning home should be aware of safety hazards including unstable trees, potential rockfall, and ash pits within the Bald Range perimeter.
- Residents can report unusual activity via the Wildfire Service mobile app or 1-800-663-5555, while officials remind the public that Unsanctioned drone activity near the wildfire is illegal and threatens operational safety.
