- The scheme was uncovered when the victim's mother received notification that her son's Medicaid coverage was being terminated due to income fraudulently reported in his name, causing the child from Hutto, Texas to lose Medicaid coverage.
- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said this case is a "disturbing example" of resource drain and pledged action, while the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit has recovered more than $1 billion for Texas taxpayers since 2020.
- Benefit fraud has become a leading concern in recent years, a pre-indictment docket call was scheduled for Wednesday, and Newsweek reached out to ICE Wednesday morning.
