Islamist attack on Nigerian military school kills 17 police trainees
Police said the attackers came from multiple directions and killed 17 officers during specialized counterterrorism training at the school.
Terrorists launched a coordinated attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing 17 police officers undergoing specialized operational training.
The Nigerian Army disclosed that another nearby military formation was also targeted in the coordinated assault; Operation Hadin Kai, a joint task force in the North-east, reported about 50 terrorists were killed in response.
Police spokesperson DCP Anthony Placid announced the casualties on Saturday, while Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu described the fallen as "courageous and dedicated personnel," stating "the sacrifices of the deceased officers will never be forgotten."
Yobe State Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin visited the Special Forces School to commiserate with Commandant Brigadier General A.C. Enuagu and surviving officers, commending their resilience and encouraging completion of training in honor of fallen colleagues.
The Inspector-General of Police assured Nigerians that the Force, working with the Armed Forces and other security agencies, will pursue those responsible, as the NPF honors the fallen officers' unwavering dedication to national service.
