Teen’s Decision to Become an Organ Donor Comforts Family After Crash
His father says the teen’s decision to donate organs, made two weeks earlier, has given the family comfort as he will not recover.
On Thursday, 16-year-old Wyatt George was struck by a car while riding his bike along Mustang Road in Oklahoma, suffering catastrophic head injuries. His father, Brent Lim, is preparing to say goodbye.
Just two weeks ago, while obtaining his learner's permit, Wyatt decided to become an organ donor. Lim recalled his son returning moments later with a determined look, saying, "I want to do it. I want to be an organ donator."
Lim described his son as a "connector" who loved people and riding bikes. Upon seeing Wyatt at the hospital, Lim said, "As soon as I saw him, the weight of his injuries hit me hard, and I cried."
Now, Wyatt's final gift will help others. Lim found solace in his son's decision, saying, "I see the hand of God in this, and it has made a really hard thing easier."
Reflecting on his son's legacy, Lim said, "This was his purpose, was to help others, to give of himself. That made it so much easier." The family has set up a GoFundMe to assist with medical expenses.
