Hyundai Motor reports 5.5% rise in Q3 operating profit, beats forecasts
On Oct 29, Hyundai Motor reported a 5.5% rise in third-quarter operating profit to 2.68 trillion won, even as sales fell 3.4 percent to 45 trillion won during the period.
Favorable exchange rates and strong demand for hybrid cars helped offset production disruptions from labor strikes, which caused domestic sales to fall 27.2 percent to 131,468 vehicles.
The company sold 167,414 hybrid cars, an increase of about 6,000 vehicles from last year, while total electrified vehicle sales, including EVs and plug-in hybrids, fell 2.7 percent to 245,540 vehicles.
Hyundai Motor lowered its full-year operating profit-to-sales ratio target to between 5.5 percent and 6.5 percent, while cutting annual sales target to 4 million vehicles from 4.16 million.
Despite geopolitical tensions and United States tariffs expected to persist, Hyundai Motor reaffirmed its commitment to shareholder returns by setting a third-quarter dividend of 2,500 won per share, payable Dec. 30.
