How Iceland's volcanoes once gave the Bosphorus icebergs

Summary by Salzburger Nachrichten
In the winter of 763/764 AD, the Byzantine emperor Johannes Preiser-Kapeller of the Institute for Medieval Research of the Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) reportedly saw icebergs from Constantinople - today Istanbul. This extreme weather anomaly is now attributed to an active phase of volcanoes on Iceland in a new study with his participation, contrary to earlier assumptions.
