Houston Texans try to regroup at bye after getting off to 2-5 start
Houston’s defense has slipped from first in yards allowed to 18th this season, and DeMeco Ryans said the team must regroup during the bye.
On Sunday, October 25, the Houston Texans fell to 2-5 after a 27-21 overtime loss to the New York Giants, entering their bye week following a challenging start to the 2026 season.
The defense has allowed 342 yards per game, ranking 18th, while managing just six takeaways to rank 27th. Coach DeMeco Ryans said, "We're the worst team in the league in tackling."
Quarterback C.J. Stroud has passed for 1,867 yards with one interception, while running back Woody Marks leads the team with 271 yards rushing. Receiver Tank Dell returned with 43 yards in his first game back.
During the bye week, Ryans plans to emphasize rest and recovery rather than on-field practice, stating, "It's not going out and practicing four times this week, that's going to help us get better."
The Texans will return to practice next Wednesday to prepare for their Week 9 meeting against the LA Chargers, hoping to reset for the second half of their 2026 campaign.
