Hornets Sign Charles Lee to Extension After 25-Win Improvement
The extension follows a 25-win turnaround and a 44-38 finish that nearly ended Charlotte's 11-year playoff drought, the team said.
On Thursday, the Charlotte Hornets extended head coach Charles Lee after the team improved its win total by 25 games in his second season.
After starting the season 16-28, the team rallied to finish 44-38 with a 28-10 record, marking the largest year-over-year win total improvement in franchise history.
Since Jan 1, Charlotte ranked atop the NBA in offensive rating at 120.7 and fifth in defensive rating at 110.2, while leading the league with 17.3 3-pointers made per game.
Hornets president of basketball operations Jeff Peterson praised Lee's foundation-building, while Lee said, "Our players have shown a real commitment to growth, and I'm proud of the culture we're establishing together."
Lee now aims to snap the franchise's 11-year playoff drought, the longest in the NBA, despite the team snapping a postseason win drought that dated to 2016.
