Quartararo to Join Honda in 2027

The French rider will join Honda’s factory team through 2028 as the manufacturer seeks a stronger challenge under MotoGP’s new 850cc rules.

  • Honda Racing Corporation announced on Tuesday that Fabio Quartararo will join its factory team for the 2027 and 2028 MotoGP seasons as the championship enters a new 850cc era.
  • After eight years with Yamaha, Quartararo cited limited progress and a disconnect with the manufacturer's new management structure as reasons for his departure. He is betting Honda can leverage the upcoming technical regulation shift to revive competitiveness.
  • The Frenchman brings an impressive resume including the 2021 world title, 11 victories, and 32 podiums. Honda assigned crew chief Christian Pupulin to accelerate his adaptation to the RC213V.
  • Yamaha will replace Quartararo with former champion Jorge Martin, while Honda's second factory seat remains unconfirmed. It is unclear if David Alonso or Diogo Moreira will partner with Quartararo.
  • Although finalized last January, the announcement was delayed until the summer break to align with the signing of the Brno Agreement, which establishes the sporting and commercial framework between manufacturers and the championship promoter for the next five years.
