Since this year, the property tax has been determined according to a new system. According to a survey, the tax burden has increased for two thirds of private property owners. However, there are large regional differences.
The property tax has increased for 79 percent of real estate owners in Germany. In 2025, homeowners pay around 119% more.

All in all, the state should no longer take over the property tax. The promise has broken the government, criticizes an association. That shows: the majority of homeowners pay on it.
The reform of the property tax was called for by the Federal Constitutional Court, but the policy had promised to make it income neutral. However, an evaluation by the Lobby Association of Real Estate Owners suggests that this promise was broken.

Not only the Seimas opposition, but also the ruling party is expressing dissatisfaction with the new tax reform proposals submitted by the Ministry of Finance.
