France recorded 1,243 more deaths than normal between July 3 and July 22 as the country was hit by extremely high temperatures, the country's public health authority said.

With 1,243 excess deaths recorded between July 3 and 22, the second heat wave of summer 2026, less deadly than the one at the end of June, brings the still provisional death toll from extreme temperatures this year to 7,300, Public Health France announced on Wednesday.
