Hantavirus symptoms and how it spreads as UKHSA issues new update on outbreak
UKHSA said 10 people from the overseas territories will be moved as health teams keep daily contact with isolated cruise passengers.
The UK Health Security Agency announced plans to help people safely complete their isolation period following a hantavirus case on the Hondius cruise ship, with some individuals expected to return home from Arrowe Park.
Hantavirus is a group of viruses typically carried by rodents; the World Health Organization confirmed the Andes strain affecting the cruise can rarely transmit between humans.
UKHSA plans to relocate isolating contacts to more suitable locations, including 10 individuals from the UK Overseas Territories of Saint Helena and Ascension Island, brought to England as a precaution.
"There is currently no vaccine or specific antiviral treatment for hantavirus infections," health experts added, though treatment remains supportive and based on symptoms including hospital care and respiratory support.
UKHSA Chief Scientific Officer Professor Robin May concluded: "We are grateful to the passengers for their cooperation and patience in what we appreciate has been a very unsettling period for all involved.
