Hamilton defence faces challenge in stopping Adams Jr. and red-hot Calgary offence
Vernon Adams Jr. has 20 touchdown passes and no interceptions as Calgary brings the CFL’s top scoring offense into a matchup with Hamilton’s defense.
- On Saturday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats host the Calgary Stampeders in a CFL matchup featuring the league's top offense led by quarterback Vernon Adams Jr., who has 20 touchdowns with no interceptions.
- Adams' efficiency powered Calgary to a 52-30 victory over Winnipeg last week, extending what Hamilton head coach Scott Milanovich described as a season-long tear. Milanovich said Adams 'can get streaky and he's on a season-long tear right now,' prompting defensive focus.
- Milanovich targets Calgary running back Dedrick Mills, the CFL rushing leader with 584 yards at a 6.1-yard average, as key to disrupting Adams. 'That goes back to putting him in second-and-long situations where our pass rushers can kind of tee off,' Milanovich said.
- Quarterback Tre Ford makes his second straight start for Hamilton following last week's 31-18 loss to Montreal. Ford said, 'I wish we could've done more; it's definitely a down for us, but the good thing about when you're down is you can only go up.'
- Linebacker Reggie Stubblefield predicted 'the most physical, disciplined and consistent team will win' in a four-quarter battle between elite units. Last week, former Ticat Tyreik McAllister became the first CFL player to score rushing, receiving and return touchdowns in one game with 212 combined yards.
