GSK Plans More Than $800 Million in Pennsylvania Expansion - FINCHANNEL
The project will add a commercial-scale biologics plant, a pilot facility and a quality lab, and it will create more than 300 jobs.
On Friday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's office announced that GSK will invest more than $800 million to expand its Upper Merion site into a biopharmaceutical manufacturing and research hub, creating more than 300 jobs over five years.
The Upper Merion expansion and GSK's previously announced Lancaster County facility project together represent nearly $1.7 billion of planned investment in Pennsylvania, intended to accelerate development and supply of future medicines.
Starting in 2027, GSK will demolish existing buildings and construct a commercial-scale biologics facility and R&D pilot plant while retaining approximately 4,500 existing full-time jobs across Pennsylvania.
GSK will be eligible for state tax benefits through Pennsylvania's Qualified Manufacturing Innovation and Reinvestment Deduction program and Manufacturing Tax Credit program, as confirmed by Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger.
"Investing in additional commercial and R&D manufacturing with advanced digital capabilities at our Upper Merion site will help accelerate the development and supply of future medicines for patients," said Regis Simard, president of GSK Global Supply Chain.
