Greensboro gets a new sponsor and a spot on the top tier Championship Series
The renamed GO by Raymond James will join roughly two dozen elite events offering $20 million prize funds in the PGA Tour’s revamped 2028 schedule.
The PGA Tour event in Greensboro, North Carolina, will join the top-tier Championship Series in 2028 with Raymond James as the new title sponsor at Sedgefield Country Club.
Known as the Greater Greensboro Open since 1938 and the Wyndham Championship since 2007, the tournament will be renamed "GO by Raymond James" to honor its heritage.
The Championship Series features roughly two dozen tournaments competing for $20 million prize funds, including The Players Championship, with Greensboro as the sixth announced event.
Other Championship Series events include The Sentry, Arnold Palmer Invitational, Cadillac Championship, Travelers Championship, and a new tournament sponsored by Sompo; a separate Challenger Series will offer smaller purses.
Paul Shoukry, CEO of the Florida-based wealth management firm, said the sponsorship reflects confidence in the PGA Tour's vision and the Piedmont Triad Charitable Foundation, which operates the event.
