Quickly growing grass fire extinguished off Highway 97 in West Kelowna
West Kelowna Fire Rescue said the blaze grew to about 300 feet by 75 feet before crews contained it and kept it from spreading.
- On Saturday evening, West Kelowna Fire Rescue extinguished a grass fire that sparked along Highway 97 near Sneena Road.
- West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund said crews responded to the fast-growing blaze near Bridge Hill, which spread rapidly off the highway.
- "The fire grew to 300ft x 75ft," Brolund said, as crews worked alongside WFN officers and the RCMP to contain the blaze.
- Sneena Road is currently closed to traffic while emergency personnel complete mop-up operations, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.
- The cause remains under investigation, though Brolund stated the fire is not expected to grow further despite heavy winds in the area.
