Grand Forks bicyclist says e-bikes are becoming more popular for trail riding
Local riders say pedal-assist and throttle-equipped bikes are making trail riding easier as fall sales shift toward accessories, shop owners said.
Grand Forks cyclists are increasingly embracing e-bikes as the fall trail season continues, according to Ski & Bike Shop owner Simon Murphy.
E-Bikes offer enhanced comfort through suspension and pedal-assist technology, making outdoor riding accessible when terrain is challenging or steep.
Riders can choose between three classes of e-bikes, with Class III models reaching speeds up to 28 mph; Murphy suggests using a headlight as "the rider's eye" for evening safety.
National data from the U.S. Department of Energy shows the e-bike market reached a value of about $4.06 billion in 2026, with nearly 1 million units sold or traded.
Despite cooling weather, riders continue hitting trails at Turtle River State Park, Frost Fire, and Pembina Gorge, viewing the fall season as ideal for enjoying changing scenery.
