GP says she was forced out of job after raising concerns about gender treatment
A tribunal heard the GP says patient-safety warnings were ignored while later investigations found 78 children may have been harmed at WellBN.
Safeguarding GP Sarah Redvers is pursuing a constructive dismissal claim against the NHS Sussex Integrated Care Board and former CEO Adam Doyle, alleging she was "silenced" after raising concerns about gender-related prescribing at the WellBN practice.
In 2020, Redvers began questioning WellBN's assessment of vulnerable children, specifically GP Hall's prescribing of puberty blockers, after another doctor raised concerns about a patient seen at an overseas online clinic.
A June 2026 NHS investigation subsequently found 78 children were potentially harmed at WellBN after receiving puberty-blocking drugs and cross-sex hormones without proper checks. The report resulted from an autumn 2024 drug review, not Redvers' earlier concerns.
NHS England acknowledged it was "totally unacceptable" that young people were put at risk because practitioners provided unauthorized care. The health body admitted some employment processes regarding Redvers "should have been handled differently."
Experts warn that Redvers' treatment created a "broader negative impact" on staff willingness to report safety concerns. The tribunal continues examining why leaders ignored warnings about the clinic, which WellBN now says requires "compassionate, safe and effective care.
