Govt cuts petrol price by Rs4, high-speed diesel by Rs2
Pakistan's federal government reduced petrol prices by Rs4 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs2 on Friday, marking the fifth consecutive weekly cut to Rs373.78 and Rs378.78 respectively.
Regional tensions triggered the volatility; The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February, disrupting global oil supplies after Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz.
While petrol and HSD prices declined, the Petroleum Division increased kerosene oil by Rs1.49 to Rs282.19 per litre, as HSD fuels transport vehicles while petrol serves commuters.
Petrol pump owners demanded the government replace weekly pricing with monthly reviews, warning of a nationwide protest campaign if their demands remain unaddressed.
Retailers maintain monthly pricing would stabilize markets and improve planning for dealers and consumers, as frequent revisions create administrative challenges undermining business predictability.
