UK Passport Prices Set to Rise as Family of Four 'Would Pay £391'
The Home Office says the fee rise helps cover passport processing and consular costs, reducing reliance on taxpayer funding as fees rise by around 8%.
From April 8, the Home Office proposed an 8% rise in passport fees, publishing new prices ahead of Parliamentary approval.
The Home Office said it seeks to shift costs to users to reduce reliance on general taxation, explaining fees cover processing applications, consular support, and border control.
Overseas applications will rise from £120.50 to £130 for adults and from £82.50 to £89 for children, with postal fees increasing from £120.50 to £130 for adults and £82.50 to £89 for children.
The SNP said they will vote against the passport fee increase, which could cost families up to £120.50 from April 8, 2026.
Research by the House of Commons Library shows a standard adult postal passport rose 542% since 1997, while wages increased 144%, and the most recent hike was on April 10, 2025.
