Gov. Evers Mobilizes Wisconsin National Guard to Help with Winnebago Co. Tornado Recovery
The Guard will support debris removal, traffic control and safety checks as crews restore power to thousands of residents.
- On Thursday, July 30, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers activated the Wisconsin National Guard to assist Winnebago County with recovery efforts following Monday's tornado.
- The storm, an EF-3 tornado, tore through Appleton and Menasha on July 27 with 140 mph winds, remaining on the ground for 26 minutes and covering 12.1 miles.
- Menasha Police Chief Matt Albrecht implemented a 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew to deter looting, while damage assessment teams have inspected more than 500 homes.
- Across the region, volunteers are clearing debris yard-by-yard, while officials report more than 200 calls for assistance and encourage residents to dial 988 for mental health support.
- A boil water advisory remains in effect for Fox Crossing and Menasha, while utility crews continue working to restore power to nearly 2,500 customers still without electricity.
