Google Meet is getting real-time speech translation

Google announced at its 2025 I/O event that Google Meet will start rolling out real-time speech translation in beta beginning Tuesday in the US.
This feature leverages Google DeepMind’s large language audio model and aims to enable natural conversations by translating spoken words into the listener's preferred language.
Initially, the translation will support English and Spanish, with Italian, German, and Portuguese added in the following weeks, while Google plans to extend this to Workspace business customers soon.
Google stated that the tool maintains the original speaker’s voice, tone, and expression throughout the translation, and likened the experience to including a live interpreter during a call in its early development phase.
The rollout suggests Google’s broader commitment to integrating AI tools across its platforms, with expectations for expanded availability and further AI-powered features in the coming months.
